Pre-Release Tracks for Physical Albums
We recently added a new feature that allows you to include individual Pre-Release/Instant Grat tracks with physical album presales to hype your releases. Since Billboard updated its chart rules in 2020, physical album sales are more important than ever. This new feature will allow you to attach Pre-Release tracks to physical formats without affecting the chart eligibility of the physical album, offering more flexibility with Physical Reporting.
Note: Instant grat tracks set up using the "Pre-Release Only" toggle will prevent those tracks from reporting as a digital album. If you want to include a full digital album with a physical album pre-order that will be eligible for reporting - see this article.
Let's dive into the steps to set up Pre-Release tracks for your next preorder campaign
Start by navigating to your digital releases tab and create a new release. Next, enter your album information. Price and Genre are required fields to fill out in order to complete a digital release. For this particular set up, price information isn't going to be seen by fan facing or charts communications. You can enter any price just to fill in the required field. UPC is also not required in this particular scenario.
Note: Please be sure to enter in the release date for the physical album. You can enter in the IG track release date for the individual track later in the process. We report sales based on the album release date entered
Hit "Continue" to navigate to the next configuration page.
After you enter the rest of your album information, toggle on "Pre-Release Tracks Only."
Note: The release date should match your album's street date so we can report the physical album that will be attached accordingly. You can edit IG track release dates on their individual track edit pages.
Drag and drop your files.
Tip: It's best to let the processing finish before making any edits! Once processing finishes, you can edit the track information.
Edit the track information by clicking the pencil icon on the far right side of each track listing and select the release date you want for each individual track. Because the IG tracks will not report, you can simply leave the ISRC field blank.
In the example above, we've created an "album" of Pre-Release Tracks where one track is set to release on August 27th, the other on August 28th.
Confirm everything looks good.
Next, select "Attach to Existing Products." This will then open a window for you to search your Shopify inventory for the physical album you would like to attach.
Note: "Add to shop" abilities are disabled when using the pre-release tracks only function.
Note: If you are unable to find your product in the search, confirm it isn't already tagged for reporting under the Physical Reporting tab. If so, go ahead and delete the album from the physical reporting tab. That should make the product available in your search to make the attachment.
Select the album, choose your "Attachment Type" and the "Reporting Type," then enter the UPC of the physical format.
In this example, we searched our Shopify store for a CD that we want these Pre-Release included with. For "Attachment Type" - we selected "CD." You'll want to select the format that matches your use case. For "Reporting Type" - select "Physical." Be sure to leave "Managed Fulfillment" toggled off.
Click "Create Attachments."
You're all done!
Now when fans pre-order your physical album, Single Music will deliver these digital Pre-Release tracks on the date you have set for them. This is a great way to get fans excited for the release and drive presales.
