Short answer... organization & security.
ISRC, the International Standard Recording Code, is the internationally recognized identification tool for sound and music video recordings. These codes are used for individual tracks.
UPC's are standardized global identifiers, which enable products to be sold, reordered and tracked through supply chains. These codes are used for albums.
In order to upload music to Single (or any other DSP like iTunes, Amazon, Spotify) you need to first obtain a UPC for your album and an ISRC for each track.
- Required by SoundScan for reporting to the Billboard Charts.
- Helps us identify fraudulent uploads & releases
So how do I get these codes?
Single Music does not currently offer UPC and ISRC registration for Albums or Tracks.
Note: You are only required to enter UPC or ISRC codes for your releases if you want them to report to the charts. In the case of selling beats, stems, etc., this info is not necessary as those cannot be reported.
